GBGC Top 40 Countdown: T-11, This is the Day (well, not quite, but you never know)

I've not run out of songs to sing, but for the moment I've run out of profound things to say. I'll just let the music do the talking. This song is from one of my favorite albums of all time, "Soul Mining" by The The. It was fun making it - using the kazoo and being inspired by the 80's synthesizer "clap-clap" sound (as if they'd forgotten back then that most of us actually have hands to clap with). But the most fun I've had with the Bad Guitar Channel lately has been sharing the experience with friends, some of whom have helped in filming. It keeps the GBGC going and gets me out of my "studio."

  5. Thanks for asking, Les - The GBGC started in May, and I started naming each track #1, #2, #3, etc.... I am now up to 44 tracks (plus the very first one, so it's actually 45).

The idea for the Top Forty Countdown occurred to me one month (31 days) before my 40th birthday. Unfortunately, this idea did not occur to me 40 days before my birthday - that would've been funnier. But, you can't turn back time (note to self: never do a Cher song). So, it is counting DOWN to 40, hence the "T minus number" numbers.... It is almost kind of a play on words, like Casey Kasem counting the Top 40 hits, but it has nothing to do with my favorite 40 songs. Are you with me so far? So, today's song is Track #44 (since the channel started) but T minus 11 (days until my birthday).

It's kind of confusing, but not really, when you understand the significance of the number 40 (which also happens to be the name of a U2 song which I made a very subtle reference to in my other U2 song, which just happens to be track #40... spooky).

You see, the GBGC is kind of like "24" or "Lost" - if you miss one episode, you're totally screwed. So, get with the program and catch up! By the way, did you see track #43? :-)

The GBGC will live on well after my birthday, I hope.
